About Me

Whilst I’m apparently apt in writing about characters, finding the words to talk about myself seems far more challenging. I suppose I’ll start by saying, I’ve always wanted to be an author. Whenever I was asked ‘if you could be anything, what would you be?’ ‘An author’ was always my answer. It still feels a bit surreal that I can say that I have now achieved that.

I credit becoming an author as beginning with my mum and nan. I grew up seeing them read which encouraged me to fall in love with the stories between pages. The fantasy series I credit with igniting my love for the genre is the Inkheart Trilogy by Cornelia Funke. But I credit A Song of Ice and Fire series for cementing the love.

As I loved reading and English Literature, I chose it as my degree. I graduated from Queen Mary University of London with a 2:1 degree in English Literature. However, what no one tells you when you choose to study English Literature, is that you don’t get to read all of your favourite books all the time. In fact, for practically all three years, you’re forced to read in genres that you honestly don’t care for. I had some reprieve in my third year when my favourite classes were creative writing and childhood literature. My seminar leader for the latter is the person that encouraged me to do what I wanted for my dissertation. So, instead of feeling forced to analyse Charles Dickens, I wrote ‘Harry Potter and the Identity of Self: an application of theories of childhood development on Harry, Ron and Hermione to argue for realism in fantasy.’

Three years of critically analysing books can destroy your love for them a bit. I didn’t pick up a book for three years after graduating, until booktok emerged on my phone and told me of multiple books that I just HAD to read. From there, my love for reading returned. In 2022 I set myself the challenge of reading 100 books (it was stupid, do not read 100 books whilst trying to write your own) but it definitely helped develop my craft.

The idea for the Lost Kingdom Saga came to me on 26th September 2021. Whilst listening to a song I pictured a scene between two characters so vividly in my mind and just knew that this was the story I would write and publish. I won’t reveal the song yet as it’s a spoiler for book two… It’s an odd feeling to explain, but the story of these five books feel like they need to be out in the world and I can’t imagine doing anything else for the next few years other than writing. I hope you fall in love with the story of four unlikely heirs and the journey they will go on.
